ARTICLE I: Name
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be: “Fairfax County Sheriff’s Association Inc”
ARTICLE II: Objectives
The objective and purpose of this Association shall be to promote professionalism, promote community relations, build camaraderie, provide a forum for social activities for members and their families, recognize outstanding service to and for the Department and the Association, and provide additional benefits for its members.
ARTICLE III
Section 1:Nature
Rank does not exist in the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Association, that is, no member shall be addressed by his or
her rank or title in any meeting of the Association.
ARTICLE IV
Section 1: Membership in the Association is categorized as Active, Associate, and Honorary.
Eligibility for membership in the Association is prescribed as any Deputy Sheriff who is currently
employed by the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.
Section 2: Active members are dues paying sworn and non-sworn members of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office. Active members will have dues deducted through payroll deductions and will have voting privileges.
Section 3: Associate members are non-paying, non voting members and include corporate sponsors, reserve deputies, retirees, judges, attorneys, civilians, and other groups in support of the Association. Associate members contribute substantially to the goals and purpose of the Association. Any Active member may nominate a person or group as an Associate member at any regular meeting. A majority of the total votes received from the Active membership is needed to become and Associate member.
Section 4: Honorary membership is reserved for the Fairfax County Sheriff. The Sheriff will not pay dues and will not have voting privileges.
Section 5: Any member whose behavior or actions are deemed to be contrary to the objectives of the Association may be removed from the Association by the membership with a majority of the total votes received.
ARTICLE V : Officers
Section 1:The officers of the Association shall be a President, a Vice President, a Treasurer, and a Secretary , and
such other officers as may be deemed necessary by those Officers and approved by the membership with a majority of the total votes received.
Section 2: All officers shall be elected annually and they shall hold office until their successors are duly installed.
Section 3: Every member of this Association in good standing , excluding Associate and Honorary members, shall
be eligible to hold office in the Association.
ARTICLE VI: Finance
Section 1: The revenue of this Association shall be derived from membership dues and/or from other such sources
as may be approved by the Association’s Officers.
Section 2: The amount of the annual dues shall be recommended to the membership by the Officers. Associate and
Honorary members will be exempt from annual dues.
ARTICLE VII: Amendments
Section 1: This Constitution may be amended at by the membership with a majority of the total votes received. The amendment shall have been submitted in writing or electronically to all members not less than thirty days in advance of the date such amendment is to be voted on.
